Activities

It can be a big adjustment for a person moving into a care facility. We all have had the feeling of being in a new place... It is overwhelming, different...so many unknowns. As human beings though we take comfort when we can make a connection with someone or something. As a care giver one of the biggest worries is not knowing how your loved one will adapt to this big change in their life. At The Vines our mission is to help our residents connect in some way. Whether it be through...

Morning Exercise

Group exercise in the morning increases brain activity and retention of new information, and better reaction to complex or stressful situations such as moving into a new environment like a care facility.  Exercising benefits all aspects of our lives, including boosting moods, building resilience, and adding to overall enjoyment of life.

Music

We have live entertainment several times a month. We also have music from the residents past playing all day in both dining rooms.

Social Outings

Our bus goes out a couple times a week, weather permitting. We go to restaurants, the movies, Paddle Wheel Boat Rides on the Fox, the pumpkin farm, the zoo, to name a few. We are actually in the annual South Elgin Fourth of July parade! Sometimes we just take a neighborhood drive, stopping for ice cream.

Kitchen Kapers

A weekly activity where we make snacks, cookies, mini pizzas and more.

Crafts

Our residents have made lots of gifts for their family members during craft time. Ornaments, nic nacs, stationary to name a few. We also count on our residents to  keep name tags on our walkers and wheelchairs, and helping us decorate for the holiday seasons!

Patio Time

We go out to our beautiful patio after lunch as much as we can. We’ll play games, like bowling, or just sit around and listen to music or sing. Sometimes we’ll just sit and listen to the birds or talk.

Games

We play a variety of games throughout the week, but the resident favorite has always been BINGO. We try to play at least twice a week.

Resident of the Month

If it’s your birthday month you have the option of being interviewed sharing your background.  Your picture and story will go up on our Resident of the Month Board during the month of your birthday for all to read and learn more about you.

Supervised Nature Walks

Nestled on 7 acres of land, scenic walking path enables residents to connect with nature capturing a bird’s eye view of our natural surroundings like deer spotting, bird watching and the beautiful foliage of each season.

It's Never 2 Late

Engaging in activities together on our state of the art computer program system It’s Never 2 Late (iN2L) geared towards seniors.

The system is built on a picture-based, touch-screen interface that allows users to simply “touch” their way to find engaging, educational, spiritual and personalized content that is appropriate to their own level of ability. From using e-mail and web cams to connect with family and friends, to enjoying mind-stimulating activities, to improving hand-eye coordination as part of a rehabilitation program, elders with a wide range of physical and cognitive abilities, most of whom have never used a computer, are now enjoying technology using systems adapted especially for them.
